Interpreting salt-influenced basins remains challenging due to discontinuous horizons and complex salt geometries, often resulting in significant subsurface uncertainty.

This session presents a multi-phase workflow designed to enhance correlation within salt minibasin settings and improve overall geological understanding. The approach includes:

1. Application of a global Relative Geological Time (RGT) modelling technique that transforms seismic data into a continuous stratigraphic framework, enabling detailed interpretation of halokinetic sequences, sediment stacking patterns, and depositional timing.

2. Integration of Machine Learning methods to support salt and fault extraction, as well as geological pattern classification using seismic amplitude and spectral magnitude attributes.

Case studies from the Gulf of Mexico and Brazil’s Santos Basin will demonstrate how combining interpretation with data-driven techniques can accelerate subsurface evaluation and offer a structured framework for characterizing salt-controlled depositional systems.

Top 3 Takeaways

1. How to apply Relative Geological Time (RGT) modelling to build a continuous stratigraphic framework in salt-influenced basins

2. How Machine Learning techniques can support seismic interpretation through pattern classification and feature extraction

3. How an integrated interpretation and data-driven workflow can aid in evaluating and cataloguing salt-controlled depositional systems

The webinar is open to the public.  You do not have to be an AAPG member to register or attend.
